WORLD MAYOR 2016
The 2016 World Mayor Prize will be awarded to a mayor who has provided immigrants with the facilities to contribute to the city’s society, economy and culture. The City Mayors Foundation is looking for mayors who have recognised that people, whatever their origin, status or background, are the greatest capital the world has to offer. This year’s World Mayor Project will identify mayors whose cities have done the most to welcome immigrants and have used their skills to enrich and diversify society culturally, economically and socially. Guisi Nicolini, Mayor of Lampedusa, Italy, has been shortlisted for the Prize. ||| |

Nominations for Guisi Nicolini Mayor of Lampedusa (Italy) Nominated by Cristina Di P., Italy: Desidero sostenere Giusi Nicolini attuale Sindaca di Lampedusa per il "Premio Mondiale di Sindaco 2016". Motivazioni : Oltre ad aver contribuito allo sviluppo e crescita della comunità di Lampedusa e Linosa nei vari aspetti, soprattutto si è sempre distinta nella cultura e sostegno di soccorsi e aiuti ai migranti. Insieme a tutti i lampedusani, medici, volontari e Forze dell'ordine dell'isola (Guardia Costiera, Polizia, Carabinieri ecc) molto spesso affrontando i soccorsi col mare in condizioni estreme e situazioni drammatiche. Giusi è una donna sensibile e straordinaria di immenso valore umanitario, nel suo compito di sindaco è attiva e determinata nell'accogliere i rifugiati e soccorrere e integrare i migranti insieme a tutti i meravigliosi abitanti di Lampedusa. Ritengo siano operazioni preziose e importantissime per quanto sta accadendo in questi ultimi anni di terribili guerre in Africa e meriti quindi il sostegno e la riconoscenza del mondo intero incondizionatamente. Ancor più mi commuove il suo sentimento caratteristico in cui prevale sempre una straordinaria umanità, delicatezza e vicinanza rivolta ai migranti - senza riserve - qualunque sia la zona di provenienza, la cultura, la religione o il colore della pelle e con la semplicità e la determinazione di chi ha nel cuore il prossimo e l'accoglienza. Ho avuto il piacere di conoscere personalmente Giusi Nicolini e ho riconosciuto nei suoi occhi e nella sua persona queste caratteristiche, e con grande affetto rinnovo la mia stima e gratitudine con tutto il cuore. Per questo desidero esprimere il mio sostegno affinché le venga riconosciuto il "Premio Mondiale di Sindaco 2016", anche come rappresentante dei cittadini di Lampedusa e della Guardia Costiera anch'essi indispensabili impagabili e straordinari uomini e donne di valore.
