World Mayor Nominations 2021
Rafal Trzaskowski, Mayor of Warsaw, Poland The 2021 World Mayor Prize and Commendations will be conferred on mayors who have been showing leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic and who are now aiming to make their cities more resilient economically, structurally, socially and environmentally. In fact: Stronger | Fairer | Greener. The organisers of the World Mayor Project are looking for mayors who have shown exceptional leadership skills but also, and more importantly, acted at all times with compassion towards those most affected by Covid-19. The pandemic has shown how vulnerable even the richest cities are when confronted with a disaster like Covid-19. Forward-looking city leaders will now begin to re-think how their communities can be better protected against future threats, both natural and man-made. Rafal Trzaskowski, Mayor of Warsaw, Poland, has been shortlisted for the 2021 World Mayor Prize. |

Nominations for Rafal Trzaskowski Mayor of Warsaw (Poland) Nominated by V. V., outside Poland: Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski stands for respect for the European values such as non-discrimination and equal opportunities. He organised a media-action together with European cities to show solidarity with those people that suffer from exclusion, discrimination and unequal treatment on 16 Nov 2020, international tolerance day. The city has taken important measures in the corona crisis, including a support package for entrepreneurs, a campaign to encourage neighbour aid for seniors, a cultural progamme that can be enjoyed from home and a CoronaVirus hotline for foreigners. Rafal Trazkowski is also appointed as Ambassador‚ of the European Climate Pact. He commits to climate action and engages in debates with people in their communities to learn about climate change, develop and implement solutions, and connect with others to multiply the impact of those solutions. Rafal Trzaskowski works in difficult conditions, in a country where national politics go in a completely different direction. Nominated by Piotr W., outside Poland: I give my vote to Rafal Trzaskowski, the mayor of Warsaw. He manages arguably the most dynamic city in Europe and is facing headwinds from the ruling populist coalition in the country. Still, he is showing strong leadership by promoting an open and inclusive society and he is clearly a leader for other mayors in Poland. He deserves this title unquestionably. |
