Presentation of the 2021 World Mayor Prize Ahmed Aboutaleb, Mayor of Rotterdam, was presented with the 2021 World Mayor Prize in the presence of Jan Anthonie Bruijn, President of the Senate of the Netherlands. The World Mayor sculpture was designed by the Amsterdam-based French artist Manuel Ferrari and made by blacksmith Kaspar Swankey in his Berlin workshop. In an exchange of letters, Tann vom Hove, Senior Fellow at the City Mayors Foundation, wrote: "Dear Mayor, since you assumed the office of Mayor of Rotterdam many years ago you have displayed a leadership style that invites public trust. Your commitment to regard all Rotterdammers, irrespective of their status and background, as part of a large family has served your city well, particularly at times of crisis." In his letter to the City Mayors Foundation, Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb replied: "I feel truly honoured that I was awarded the 2021 World Mayor Prize together with my colleague from Grigny, France, Mayor Philippe Rio, whom I deeply respect. I would like to express my gratitude to the people of Rotterdam, the chair of the Dutch Senate, Mr Bruijn and the World Mayor team for nominating me and the heart-warming words of support."
