Comments in support of
Fernando Damata Pimentel
Mayor of Belo Horizonte (Brazil)

The top 10 mayors in World Mayor 2005 were selected equally on the number of votes received and the quality and conviction of supporting statements. Below we publish an edited selection of comments received in support of Fernando Damata Pimentel, Mayor of Belo Horizonte (Brazil).

Comment: The Mayor's administration focuses on providing the poor population with a progressive health program based on technology. The schools use free software and apply what is called 'Digital Inclusion', which open future job prospects to young people. There is a sense of responsibility in the use of public resources. He deserves this honor.

Comment: With a very tight budget due to Brazil´s emerging country conditions, Mayor Pimentel has been able to manage the 4th largest city of the country with great administrative abilities. His efforts are to reduce the suffering of the poor people. He also manages to keep the city clean and organized. He is also carrying essential infrastructure projects. He is very good technician with a great heart!

Comment: The Belo Horizonte mayor, Mr Fernando Damata Pimentel is honest and plans the development of our city with responsibility. His administration has a project to make Belo Horizonte the best place to live in Brazil. His provides hospitals, schools, facilities for children and social justice. He is the World Mayor!!! Thanks Fernando!

Comment:
Exellent mayor of a beautiful city, of the great state of Minas Gerais.

Comment: Fernando Damata Pimentel has been doing a great job in Belo Horizonte. The violence levels decreased, and is important to menyion that security is one fo the main issues in our country. In addition, many social projects have been created, such as a special police force for the protection of historical monuments. It's really hard to administrate a big city with more than than four million inhabitants and limited monetary resourses. That's why Mr. Fernando Pimentel deserves my vote and my congratulations.

Comment: Mr. Fernando Pimentel is the best mayor Belo Horizonte ever had. In all the years that he have been the mayor, the city has grown up one hundred per cent. To all social classes, to the poor and the rich, he is the face of what a Mayor need to be.

Comment: Fernando Damata Pimentel is prioritizing the improvement of the life quality in Belo Horizonte. For its politics in the areas of infantile education, public transport, security or the simple reform of a square or street, I evaluate the Mayor's administration as EXCELLENT!

Comment: Mr. Fernando Pimentel is one of the greatest mayors I´ve seen. He has acomplished a lot of programs the city of Belo Horizonte needed. Even though the city has a lot of issues to be solved, the fact is that Belo Horizonte is a city prepared to face the problems of the new millenium, thanks to Mr. Pimentel.

Comment: Mr Pimentel a very good mayor, because looks after the less fortunate people. His provides hospitals, schools, facilities for children and other public service.

Comment: Belo Horizonte is the 3rd most importante Brazilian State Capital, and our Mayor is very dynamic and has great understanding of our problems. His administration has a project to make Belo Horizonte the best place to live in Brazil. Furthermore, he is honest and plans the development of our city with responsibility. Really, he is a very, very good Mayor, mainly for the poor people.

Comment: The search of social justice and high concern about good public administration are essential qualities for public agents. And the Mayor of Belo Horizonte has them.

Each year the most outstanding mayor is presented with the World Mayor Award. In 2004 the Award was won by Edi Rama, Mayor of Tirana. Dora Bakoyannis, Mayor of Athens, is the winner of the 2005 World Mayor Award. 2005 results
