WORLD MAYOR 2018
Dedicated to women mayors The 2018 World Mayor Prize and Commendations will be conferred on women mayors who have made outstanding and long-lasting contributions to their communities. The organisers wish to show what outstanding women mayors achieve all over the world. By doing so, they hope to encourage more women to contemplate a career in local government and run for political office. The women, who will be awarded the 2018 World Mayor Prize and other honours, will be role models for young women and, indeed, men everywhere. I am in Lille since 2015 and I really appreciate the cultural opening of this city, which is full of animations every week. Due to the perseverance and the work of Martine Aubry, lots of people can place Lille on a map (and not only for the Braderie and the famous moules frites). She also participates to the saving of the Institut Pasteur de Lille where I work, when the Foundation encountered difficulties. She is implicated in the excellence of the science. Elle a tout simplement fait de Lille une ville connue comme moderne et dans l'air du temps au niveau national et est extrêmement ambitieuse pour sa ville: elle est aussi active en coulisses que publiquement avec les nombreux événements qu'elle met en place pour rendre sa ville populaire (Lille 2004, Lille 3000), elle veille également au bien-être de la population avec Lille-plage, Lille-neige mais aussi par les créneaux réservés aux femmes dans les piscines municipales. En bref, elle mérite d'être élue meilleure maire du monde parce qu'elle aime sa ville et sa population et c'est bien ce qu'on attend d'un maire.
