Dedicated to women mayors The 2018 World Mayor Prize and Commendations will be conferred on women mayors who have made outstanding and long-lasting contributions to their communities. The organisers wish to show what outstanding women mayors achieve all over the world. By doing so, they hope to encourage more women to contemplate a career in local government and run for political office. The women, who will be awarded the 2018 World Mayor Prize and other honours, will be role models for young women and, indeed, men everywhere. Parce qu' elle a su poursuivre et amplifier l objectif de faire de Rennes une grande cité européenne et une ville internationale. For several years now, she is actively working to ensure better equality between the different parts of the city. One example to show her dedication is that every year since she’s the mayor she dedicates 5% of the city budget to achieve projects proposed by the citizens themselves to improve the life in the city (culture, gardens, ecology…). She makes sure that each part of the city gets at least two projects. Each year, thanks to this event, neighbors meet and this creates bounding between older and younger people that would not necessarily meet without this event. She also works on improving ecology in Rennes (electric buses, creation of green spaces…). Apart from theses two points I’ve just listed, I would like to say that she is a Mayor really close to her citizens which she always says hello to, and she also takes part with her family to the events and festivals organized in the city. She works to change and to improve districts disadvantaged by intelligent way. There is the real reflection to open the populations to the cultural life (custody of the children during the entertainments at reduced prices for example). In schools, many extracurricular activities are proposed and the meals of the canteen are local and organic. She remains also firm on the questions of crime, without falling in the stigmatization or in the populism. Mrs Appere is a simple person and accesible. I meet her during her lunch break.
