WORLD MAYOR 2018
Dedicated to women mayors The 2018 World Mayor Prize and Commendations will be conferred on women mayors who have made outstanding and long-lasting contributions to their communities. The organisers wish to show what outstanding women mayors achieve all over the world. By doing so, they hope to encourage more women to contemplate a career in local government and run for political office. The women, who will be awarded the 2018 World Mayor Prize and other honours, will be role models for young women and, indeed, men everywhere. Hanna Zdanowska, Mayor of Lodz, Poland, was shortlisted for the 2018 World Mayor Prize. |

Nominations for Hanna Zdanowska Mayor of Lodz (Poland) Nominated by Jacek C. Middleton (WI), USA: I believe Hanna Zdanowska is the best pick for the World Mayor winner as she has been instrumental in helping the city to turn around both economically as well as culturally to what it has been back in the mid to late 19th century. The co-existing and thriving multiculturism of that era is something that she is helping to bring back to the city, even if it’s only at the beginning of such a process. In creating a great platform for collaboration in business and especially in circular bioenergy and biotechnology (bionanopark), Mayor Zdanowska has created a great replicable platform for other cities to emulate. Nominated by Franciszek W., Warsaw, Poland: Hanna Zdanowska, the Mayor of Lodz, has, since she was first elected in 2010, has brought about a remarkable economic recovery in her city. Particularly during the past five years, Lodz has become an attractive location for investment and a place where young people are happy to start careers and families. The Mayor of Lodz has also co-operated with the leaders of other Polish and European cities, exchanging ideas and learning from each other. She believes cities, in order to attract young entrepreneurs, need to be internationally connected. |
